Has anyone had the problem of your work offset (G54) randomly changing in the middle of the program.

Not without issuing a G52 command. Are you sure it's the same WCS and there is not a call to another WCS in your program?
Cheers,
Tom
Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

A G92 would do that too.
Or, if you are talking about a lathe control, then a G50 with X, Z, U or W coordinates.
Post a copy of the CNC program here, along with a Report from your control.
