Circular Connector tool(s)

Post by Sportbikeryder »

Is a part number for the tool required for extraction of pins on the Circular connectors used on Centroid pendants / probes, etc available?

I had an issue with pendant wiring, and while I am able to repair, I am not certain as to which tool is required to extract the pins.

Can you please provide more information on which cable you are working on (photo would be best)? The connectors between probes and pendants are not the same.

Pendant connector. AMP cpc size17.

I have seen documents relating to the extraction tool, however I have also seen multiple tools referenced for removal of the pins. Some of them don't really look like they would be suitable for this connector.

I'm not really sure how the front insertion tool could be used. I believe this requires a split style tool inserted from the rear, around the wire.

Yes, the extraction tool I have is used from the back side of the circular connector as you noted. It is the split tool you mention. Maybe the pins are different. I use those tools regularly for aviation wiring as aircraft use similar pins and connectors for some avionics.

Is the amp 305183 series that was mentioned split or do you have a part number for the type you use?

It appears that the AMP tool you mention is not split by looking at the instruction sheet for the tool because you use it from the front side. I'll see if I can find a part number for the one I have, I've had it for years.

Yeah, I have a few tools here, with and without splits (not necessarily selected for this connector), and so far none fit.

While they aren't super expensive, If prefer not buying 5 more to try to find the correct one if possible.

Yes, the issue is AMP makes 5 different size tools for the CPC connectors and those tools are the more expensive ones. You'll have to match your connector to the correct tool. Oddly, I don't see your size 17 on the tool chart. It does however say that part 305183 works with all sizes and I'm curious how. Someone else earlier in the topic stated that 305183-R works with all sizes but I cant find the -R part, only the 305183.

Here's a video:
