programming large chamfers

Post by MENSCO »

In the canned cycles for machining a frame you can put in a radius but not a chamfer. What is the best way to program chamfers. Assuming you have to go to linear programming. Am I correct?

Yes.

If what you are doing is the equivalent of a Frame, then use a series of Line moves. Used Subprogram -> Depth Repeat as needed for multiple depth passes.

If it is a pocket, use the Cleanout cycle (with the same series of Line moves).

Thanks for the response. For such a nice control with so many easy features I find it disappointing that a chamfer feature is not in the canned cycles.

there are several different ways to create chamfers using intercon.
in the Line event see "Connect Type" which will automatically add a chamfer between two lines. there are three choices "Radius", Bl Chamf (Len), and Chamf (Len). Also under F10 Other, is a dedicated "Chamfer" F8 event.
and you can program you own as well.
