$th Axis install, errors galore <answered>

Wired up the 4th axis, Set the encoder counts, eneabled it, and all my axis became rogue, moving Y caused X to take off and no other axis worked. I added my config to this post

I was unable to locate a manual for or much help online for the DC1

Parameter 300 = 2
Parameter 301 = 3
Parameter 302 = 4
Parameter 303 = 1

The DC1 becomes drive #1 and pushes the other axis down. You need to set parameters 300 to 303 and 308 to 311.

So, (I think I have this correct) 300 should be 2, 301 should be 3, 302 should be 4 and 303 should be 1. Check 308 to 311 and make sure they read 1,2,3 and 4 respectively.


Edit: Marc beat me to it while I looked up the parameter numbers.

Hi All,

That did correct the axis assignment. But I am a tad confused on setting the counts/in. The servo I have is a Centroid GM3340-* 16in-lb. Nowhere have I been able to locate the counts/rev of the encoder on this motor on the site. The Nikken rotary is 90:1.

With the motor dismounted from the rotary table, and with Emergency Stop pressed in:

1) Power up the system
2) Go to the PID Configuration screen (F1/Setup -> F3/Config -> "137" -> F4/PID)
3) Turn the motor shaft one revolution
4) See how much the "Abs Pos" value for the 4th axis changes.

The right answer is probably either 8000 or 20000.

Thanks, my question was poorly worded. Where I am confused is what is the proper rev count for 360 rotation. I confirmed 20,000 count and 90:1 but should the number be? for the other axis it like 10.XXXX / inch. this is rotational

For rotary axes you enter motor revs per degree in the "Revs/Inch" column.

If there are 90 motor revs in 360 table degrees, then you have 0.25 revs/degree.

Ok, 2 more questions. I promise I won't ask anymore questions until I have another question.

1) It does not matter if it is in incremental or continuous mode; as soon as I touch 4th + or - it just keeps rotating and won't stop.

2) How do I get it to work with the MPG. The wireless screen shows A and correct position but when I try to jog with the wheel it just sits there and does nothing like a lazy house cat with no legs.

I do not know any way you could make that happen. It sounds a little like the type of runaway that you get when you have servo power wired backwards, but then you should get a "410 ... position error" stall within a second or so, unless you deliberately disable stall detection.

You do have an unusually long value for the rotary axis jog increment (in Parameter 41), but you do not have the fourth axis identified as a rotary (in Parameter 94), so that should not matter. And in any event, the jog increment would not matter in continuous jog mode.

If you jog the 4th axis while watching the Error and Abs Pos values on the PID Configuration screen, do you see the Abs Pos counting up or down as the axis moves? Does the Error value also count down or up at the same time? If so, does the Error value count in the same direction, or the opposite?
How do I get it to work with the MPG.
Set Parameter 218 = 15.
