MPG1 encoder error at startup

Post by ashesman »

Sometimes when I first turn the machine on I get the above error. I don't use MPG1 encoder, only the wireless MPG. Maybe I need to turn MPG1 off somewhere. Any ideas?

Not sure but I think you could set parameter 348 to zero. Write down the current value if you need to set it back. Try that.

The wireless MPG is MPG1, when you use standard PLC logic and set P348=15.

Setting P348=0 would eliminate the error message, but it would prevent the wireless MPG from working.

I see that message all the time on systems with the wireless MPG. I speculate that it is a startup race condition, where CNC12 is looking for data from the wireless MPG, but the MPGClient.exe software has not yet started providing that data.

Perhaps someone from Centroid can clarify, or explain the correct startup sequence to avoid the message.

In the mean time, you can just ignore it. If the MPG works, then there is not really a problem.

OK. Thanks for clarifying that. It's not a big deal but would be nice if there were no errors at all at startup!

Maybe starting the mpg client a few seconds before cnc12 in the startup script would work.

Make sure the MPG is on before starting CNC12

I tried tonight. Makes no difference if the wireless MPG is turned on or not before startup. I think its just a Centroid "feature".

yep, need a fresh report.zip to help.

in general.

F1 Setup, F3 Config, F3 Parameters (pass is 137).
set MPG CNC12 parameter #218= 15 for 4 axis Mills/Routers,
#218=7 for 3 axis Mills/Routers
#218 = 3 for Lathes.

Set MPG CNC12 parameter #348 = 15 (MPG ON) and #349 & #350 = 100 (100 steps per
rev), Set # 411 = 1 (WMPG-4) F10 Save. Exit out of Parameters.

Shut Down and restart CNC12 for new parameters to take effect.

Report attached...

Note that the wireless MPG is working 100% fine. Just a warning that comes up at startup. The warning is not causing any harm, I just thought no warnings at all would be nicer.
