Z-Axis Limits, Will not pass system test

Post by Robs-shiz »

Long story short i recently had an issue with my z-axis and had to take it apart and put it back together. Everything seemed fine after reassembly until I noticed the position of the spindle was not in the correct location for the tool changer claw. To correct this I adjusted the soft limits and after I thought I adjusted them correctly I tried running the system test and have yet to be able to pass it and at this point I have no idea what I am doing wrong. The system.out report says the limits are not set correctly however I am not sure why. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Your home/limit switches are 5.2" apart and the travel limits are set at 5.4". Try setting the travel limits to 5.2" or less.

Axis has both minus and plus home switches
-Distance between home positions is 5.2000
-Distance between travel limits is 5.4000
-Difference between distances is -0.2000
*** FAILURE Travel limits set incorrectly
Finished testing home/limit switches
*** FAILED SYSTEM TEST ***

The 5.2 inches measured by System Test is the result of running M92/Z on the one end, and M91/Z on the other. You can test that yourself, and adjust your limit switch trip positions, if needed or desired, to increase the travel to 5.4 inches.

To pass the system test, you will also need to maintain an off-switch homing search distance between 1/8 and 7/8 of a motor turn. That is the distance from where the axis clears the switch, to where the encoder index pulse comes around.

So I adjusted the z- limit, ran the system test and it passed! The only issue I am left with is the z+ home position not being in the correct location for the tool changer claw. I thought I made the change correctly but it is not taking. How do I go about changing this? And if I do, do I need to rerun the system test?

Try setting the G30 and G28 Z positions to whatever distance down from home you need, to line up with the tool changer.

These are on the F1/Setup -> F1/Part -> F9/WCS -> F1/Return table.
