Vectrax mill homing issue

Post by Jpow »

Hi all anyone have any issues homing there mills? Bought a vectrax mill used seller said it recently had the upgraded m39 control from the m15. They periodically had issues homing as well got machine home powered up and tried homing z axis goes up hits limit switch comes down a little bit comes up with a warning z axis countes 2679 off may cause partto be made incorrect. If I try repeatedly to home and ignore the message it will proceed to the next axis come up with same code ,ignore and finally y axis will home machine then runs fine . Seems to be in the limit switches? Odd the if I try a few times it will home the number of counts seem to change every time by a few hundred. Any input is appreciated

The homing process involves moving the axis to the home switch, backing off a small distance, and then moving at a slower speed towards the home switch, but stopping when the index pulse from the encoder is found.

This message means the control found the encoder index pulse in a different place than the last time the machine was homed. It could be caused by chips, dirt, or debris causing the home switch to trip early; if the home switch or trip dog was bumped or moved for some reason (perhaps in shipping); or because the motor pulley has been rotated relative to the ballscrew perhaps by removing and reinstalling or changing/tightening the belt.

If you have fixtures set up on the table and work offsets set for them, the message is warning you that the machine WILL NOT return to the previous fixture zero. Keep this in mind, and hit YES to accept the new position.

Chances are, you will not see the messages again. If you continue to see this message when homing, try disconnecting the motor from the ballscrew and rotating the motor shaft 1/4 to 1/2 turn before reconnecting it. If the error continues, then you have home switches or encoders failing.
Cheers,

Tom

Another common cause is sticky limit switches that are sluggish to re-close after the axis moves off the switch. Try cleaning and lubricating the moving parts, then treating the contact points with electronic contact cleaner.
