Cant turn on Orientation on Delta C2000

Post by ashesman »

I cant seem to work out how to turn on orientation control on my new C2000 drive. Maybe I have the wrong firmware version or maybe I am just stupid!

I have the encoder card all wired and installed. The motor is running perfectly and all is good. All the auto tuning including permanent magnet position determination all worked perfectly. Just that the parameters where you set orientation position are "reserved" and the input setting 35 for orient is something else! The manual says these setting should be available but if I try change them it says error.

I have been following this guide too. https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... ds/316.pdf.

It is late and I have been rushing. I hope I missed something. I will be heart broken if this is drive number four that cant do orientation!!! Any ideas PLEASE!!!

Which orient card have you installed in the Delta 2000?

Sorry, I thought my picture showed but its blurry. It has an EMC-PG01U card. The card has ABZ and UVW inputs. It also has encoder output and AB input for position control. The motor can rotate super slowly so FOC is working. The encoder counts are working and correct.

I see you can do position control through the PLC.

As an experiment: if you change 00-11, 05-33 etc. to tell the drive that you have an induction motor instead of a permanent magnet motor, do the other parameters and features then align with TB316?

Not that you would run it that way; this would just be to see whether the drive's orient ("single point position control") feature is only available with induction motors, and is replaced with something else when a PM motor is selected.

I didn't see a link to the Delta documentation so I couldn't check that, but the Centroid TSB clearly states it needs a Orient card model EMV-PG01L or PG02. I dont know if the EMC-PG01U is the same or not.
Cheers,

I did wonder if that was the case. God I hope not. I bought this drive as the Hitachi SJ-P1 I had could only do orient on induction motors. I will try and see what happens.

It does say in the manual on page 564 that PG01L is only for induction motors. PG01U looks almost identical but has UVW inputs for initial pole position estimation so you dont need DC injection starting.

Page 708 says PG01U is for PM motors only. Otherwise it shows the two encoder cards in all the same sections. I cant findnanything that suggests that the encoder card is not suitable

They show in the following link the use of the same encoder card I have for position control. But position control is done over a communications bus using the PLC. Not that it helps much...

Contact David at Delta, he is very familiar with their VFD's
IA.VFD AT deltaww.com

I assume you didn't buy the programming cable? It is handy because you can view/program the VFD from a PC and download the parameters for safe keeping and SHARING. You could send it to David.

Thanks. How do I contact David from Delta? I have still had no luck finding an answer for this.

I did make a programming cable out of some bits i found lying around and was able to connect to it with VFDSoft. I found it frustrating as every time you changed one parameter it took about a minute to read every single parameter back! It is a good way to back up all your settings though.
