New Centroid CNC will not operate ATC

Post by akite »

We purchased a new Centroid CNC Milling Machine and when trying to change tools it's giving us an Undefined PLC error 223.

Your machine builder did not install the correct supporting files to go with the PLC programming on your control.

Download the attached update package and install it into your control using F7/Utility -> F2/Restore Report.

The immediate cause of your problem is that the carousel-out sensor is not closed. Chances are, the tool carousel shifted slightly away from its stop during handling.

One way to resolve it is:
1) Make sure the head is up high enough that the carousel can slide in without interference.
2) Press and hold the Aux12 key for one second, until its light comes on .
Aux12 is the blank gray key below Aux9 / Tool Index +
3) Press the Aux6 key to advance the carousel under the spindle
4) Press the Aux5 key to retract the carousel back out to its stop
5) Press and hold the Aux12 key for one second again, until its light turns off.

On your machine, the carousel-retracted sensor is wired to INP31.

On the Alt-i diagnostic display, INP31 should be green when the carousel is fully retracted out of the way, and red when the carousel is anywhere else.

We have resolved the issue, this machine was purchased new and our dealer didn't include any instructions on how to set it up and there was a bracket up inside that we had missed which was hidden to prevent the ATC from moving during shipment but it's operating properly now.

Glad to hear you located and resolved the immediate issue.

You should still install the package of supporting files. Otherwise, you will continue to get missing or nonsensical messages whenever an error or fault occurs.

Our dealer sent a file through email that we updated yesterday. I just now downloaded your file and will get that in today, also having licensing issues and has a trial code which is mostly used for machines that have been financed, this machine was purchased outright a few months ago before it even shipped but this is a dealer issue to get those unlock codes.

We did email them before we powered it on for the first time asking if there was anything that we needed to do beforehand and there was a few things they had neglected to mention. We've been using Centroid for many years but this is our first milling machine with the ATC so it's definitely a learning curve.
