CNC 11 does not launch G-code editor

Post by lmck2 »

I recently purchased and installed a knee mill with a centroid cnc11 control. Everything seems to work fine except the g-code editor does not launch. When you press F6 you get a little black box that says "starting editor .." that flashes for a second then disappears. It return to the program. You can push F6 multiple times with the same result.

I am sure this is some little program setting that I just don't how how to change. Maybe the previous owner did not want the "operator" to make any changes to the program.

Any help or insight would be deeply appreciated. I know there are users out there that understand this software much better than I do. I have attached a picture and report.zip

Thanks for your time and help.

Try it with a program file name that does not contain any space characters; or that is shorter; or that does not contain any period ("dot") characters except for the one in the ".CNC" extension.

Most likely the issue is the spaces.

If you were to update the computer and control software to a current Windows system, that and many other things would probably work better. The version you are running -- CNC11 v3.03 under Linux -- is a very early (developmental, really) release that Centroid no longer supports.

Tried "tapping.nc" - No change.

When you say it is a release that centroid no longer supports. Does that mean no help from centroid?

Centroid provides support for its motion controllers to the extent parts are available.
They do have a per hour support rate.

It appears you have an older Linux based control software from looking at your report. It also appears as Marc pointed out, not a release version
As Marc suggested, you should consider upgrading the software if the machine is in good condition to a newer release. It looks like you have an All in One DC which provided you upgrade the computer to Windows 10, you should be able to run the newer version of CNC12. You should call Centroid for Upgrade options.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the upgrade, you might contact Marc @ cncsnw.com and see about retaining his services.

from the report... CNC11 Mill v3.03 Dev Test, Rev 28

"Dev Test" = beta software.

support is offered for released versions of software as you can imagine trying to provide tech support for beta software is impossible. :D

the final released version of CNC11 is v3.16, this is one option. or update to v3.06 as another.

I would hire a tech who is familiar with this process to do this update.

v3.16 is a solid nice pc. of software, if you can get your machine to that point it is nice to run.
