DC volts into allin1dc

Post by travismost »

Hello, I am retrofitting my Republic Lagun 310 mill to the allin1dc. It was equipped with a dynapath delta 20 controller and a sevo dynamics DC servo drive. I have 80 DC volts that used to power the servo dynamics drive. Is that going to work to wire to the allin1dc? My z DC motor has a max voltage of 120 while my x and y have a max voltage of 150. Is 80vdc too low? I have a electrician friend that is going to help me but I'm trying to get my ducks in a row before hand to make it easier and if I have to order parts. I'm guessing since I already have the DC voltage, I won't need the capacitor and bridge combo? Thanks for any help!

You can use the existing 80VDC supply.

You would get higher maximum speeds with a higher voltage, but getting to a voltage higher than 80V, not exceeding 120V, would require a different transformer.

Ok. Would I be better off having him run 120 ac to the capacitor and bridge combo then dropping it from there to achieve 120dcv? On the original wiring, the DC wires that left the DC servo went to these little transformers before going to the motors. One for each axis. Could they be step up transformers to go from 80 to 120 DC volts? If so, could I wire them in after the allin1dc then go to the motors?

Transformers only work with AC. You'll need to change your incoming power to 150/1.414 = 106 VAC. You'll need to search for a step down transformer with a secondary around 100V and capable of handling the current you need for your drives.
Cheers,

Tom

So step down the ac and use the capacitor and bridge combo supplied by Centroid and don't use the 80 volts from the original machine?

80vac rectified to DC 80*1.414=113.2VDC
113VDC is no problem for your machine, it is below the DC Servo max terminal voltage of 120VDC

Ok thank you. For some reason I thought I had 80vdc down to my old servo dynamics drive but I just checked it and it is 80vac. So if I run that 80vac to the capacitor and bridge combo, I will end up with 113.2vdc out, correct. My z motor is rated at 120 max and the x and y are 150 max. Do I not worry about being low on voltage for the x and y? Again, I appreciate the help!

You should be fine, as it sounds like what the machine was originally configured with.
