Alt s is cycle start.
As far as I know and my experience, Alt s always works.

You have a stall error you need to get rid of again before you can proceed. So you have a physical Estop button you can cycle?

Not yet. No estop switch
This is on the bench in the garage at home.
I figured to get it all dialed in the mount it in the machine to save some headaches.
I just found another 1.
One of the koyo encoders is shorted internally. I felt the db9 was getting warm. Took apart the plug from centroid. That was good.
Took apart the motor cap and checked my plug. Looked good. No pins shorted.
It is shorted from 5v to the shield which is 2 pins away. Weird. Unless I made some mistake I do not see.

I will look at it some more .

I just took the encoder out.
It is shorted from the 5v wire to the shield.
I cut back the outer sheathing some to see if maybe I screwed it up somehow. It looked fine.
This is bad...I am dreading doing those little wires all over again.
Has anyone seen this happen?

I have to say thank you to automation direct.
Not only did they send a call tag for the bad encoder, but the replacement came today also. A real standup company. I do dread crimping those pins.

I did get the spindle test to run. It was my fault for not toggling the estop off then back on. I was just too frustrated after the bad encoder on sunday.
I needed to walk away from it for a few and let my brain reset.

But here is my new question.
I inputted 4,000 rpm for the high gear, as I believe the machine is 50-500 rpm low gear and 500-4,000 rpm high gear.
But the spindle test would only allow 3,000 rpm. I am not sure I really need the full 4,000 rpm anyway.

I am also worried that the shorted encoder did any damage to the board. I did take a different axis and plugged it in .It seemed fine.

Anyhow, moving along at a decent pace. I will put the new encoder in over the weekend (needed more pins) and just look everything over and get ready to mount it and start wiring.

Getting excited now.

Setting the maximum to 3000 RPM is just a temporary concession for the sake of the spindle bench test.

Once that is done, you set the maximum to whatever your spindle drive is really programmed for (or whatever you intend to program your spindle drive for).

When I came inside after I was done I was thinking the same thing, it had to be just for the test setup.

Have you ever had one of those encoders shorted like I did? I thought it was me with the wiring, but that was alright.
I hope there is not damage to the board now. I did plug a good one in and it counted, but so did the bad one. Fingers crossed.

Thank you again. I should start cabinet wiring next week.

While for the Acorn motion controller, it still applies.

Be patient and follow the All In One DC Installation manual step by step and follow my video series. You're kind of getting ahead of yourself. You are still testing, not configuring your machine quite yet.

Just a quick update. I am moving along as I find the time.
Finished the front control tonight.

I used a Perixx keyboard as it has a regular number pad, a touchpad mouse and arrow keys which seem hard to find if you want a touchpad.
The monitor is the viewsonic that marty suggested, works great.
I found a very low profile mount from monoprice and beefed it up with some swivel furniture feet mounts that are just slightly touching the back of the monitor so it does not flex when you push on it.

The E-stop is in a project box that covers the old hole on the side.I also put a usb jack from l-com in the back. Moved the handle to the side also.
In the back I have so far mounted the computer and wired it to the old emi filter.

The allin1 is also mounted and I have started to put some wiring to it. Limit switches, high/low spindle and a few more not pictured.

The dc1 is just hanging so I can read the inputs and outputs.
So all in all getting there. I am trying to get the vfd wired this weekend, then it is down to motors and contactors.
I do have a question for you guys.
It seems all of the inputs want to see a N/C contact. I am up to wiring the Bijur lube pump. I think it is a TM-5 but the tag is wiped clean.
I pulled the cover off and it seems to be a N/O. It did not have another wire for N/C.
Is this something that I can just invert in the software?

Again thanks for everyone here on this forum for great advice. Starting to get excited about getting this running.

You can invert an input in the Diagnostic screen (Alt i)
