Re: Milltronics MB24
There is no force on the encoder, it places no load on the motor, therefore the coupler just needs to keep in in alignment, with a tiny bit of flexibility for some misalignment. I think the fiberglass reinforced resin one is fine, in my opinion as is the aluminum one.
Whatever fits up the best.

Hey Jeff.
Just popping in to say hi. Your project, shop, and location caught my eye. I grew up in the Hudson Valley of NY and building cars was and still is a hobby. I had "a guy" up in Pleasant Valley, Gus and Dave Moro who did my machine work. They were absolute magicians when it came to engines. The last one they did was a 375HP 396 for my '68 Camaro, that I've had since high school (45 years).
I'm sure you've seen the thread on my machine upgrade, it grew big and fast and I am no where near done yet. I am a machine user vs a machine builder/repair person so it's been slow going. But with the help and patience in here, it'll get done eventually. I went with basically the same package that you're using, but I retained my encoders and made my own new encoder and power cables.
My best wishes on your project.
Mark

Re: Milltronics MB24
Hey guys.....quick update
It was not a skill nor a tool problem, but I just can not see that finite anymore.Even with glasses and a magnifier it was tough.
I did order extra pins and plugs from digikey and a good thing I did.
I found that if I kamikazed it they came out better than when I was trying to be gentle. So they are almost back together. The couplers that I had purchased from automation were just a tad too short.
I wound up getting some aluminum ones from mcmaster carr which should be here tuesday.
If the monitor gets here this week, hopefully we can fire the system and do some checks before I start mounting everything.
Hey chevy427z.Yes the love of the combustion engine keeps me going everyday.
It is fun to do something you love everyday.I also have a supeflow dyno in a room that I built.
Today we ran some marine engines...598 cubes. They made right around 700hp.That sis always the payoff, when you get to hear or see you work.
Regards.
Jeff
Cabinet gutted.Looks better already.
Front control removed.New keyboard tray and E-stop box and button mounted.
Motors taken apart, washed and rewired. They had tachs in them which some of the brushes were stuck.I put the bakelite top plates back in with countersunk screws to act as a dust shield.
I had a really bad time when it came to wiring the encoders. My 30 year old eyes were much better 25 years ago...LOLIt was not a skill nor a tool problem, but I just can not see that finite anymore.Even with glasses and a magnifier it was tough.

Re: Milltronics MB24
Couplers came today from mcmaster carr.Very nice.
Not the red but maybe blue.
It also looks like the monitor shipped today. So by next weekend I should have everything tested and then it is cabinet wiring time..
Thanks again for everyone's input and suggestions.
Jeff
Do you guys put loctite on the set screws? Not the red but maybe blue.

Re: Milltronics MB24
I don't. they are so small, if you ever want to get them off you might strip them. Keep in mind, there is NO torque on the encoder.S-K Machine wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 6:59 pm Couplers came today from mcmaster carr.Very nice.

Re: Milltronics MB24
You can use low-strength purple - Loctite 222
Cheers,

Re: Milltronics MB24
Making great progress this weekend.
Motors and encoders are all finished. Those strain reliefs are a little too tight. I had to take an endmill and open them some.
I also managed to sneak a .200 hole in the middle of one for the z-brake.
I mounted both power supply's underneath the allin1. Fired up the computer and loaded software.
Some idiot at centroid labeled the unlock dat file wrong with an _ before the period.
That took an hour or more to figure out. I followed some of the online manual and some of marty's youtube to do the benchtest.
All the encoders are moving upward and the correct counts. I went to do the spindle test and am getting error 2035 keyboard jogging disabled.
I poked around quickly but did not see where to correct that error. I need help with that please to move forward.
Another question, is the wizard only combined with the acorn and not the allin1?
Overall a good weekend. I will have the touchscreen this week. So maybe 1 more weekend getting it dialed in and then I can mount it.
If anyone can help me get past that keyboard error would be fantastic.
Thanks again.

Re: Milltronics MB24
Easy on the term "idiot" we all make mistakes.
No Wizard for Servo. Only Acorn.
Always post a fresh report and screen shot your error.
Not sure why you need keyboard jogging for the analog spindle output test.
Keyboard jogging is enabled and disabled by pressing Alt j

Re: Milltronics MB24
The centroid bunch has me a little "ticked" at the moment.
From forgetting to sent me that file, and it was named wrong, then wanting to charge me about double for some wire I needed to do the e-stop, to forgetting the standoffs and hardware to mount dc1 to the unit. When I called they now want to charge me for the hardware kit to mount the dc1.
$3,500 I just spent, with more to come on accessories like the handwheel and the probe and they won't chuck some hardware in the mail?
Anyway back to the software.
When I go to do the spindle voltage test, I hit alt/s as I do not have the touch screen here yet and it gives me that 2035 keyboard jogging disabled error.I am sure it is a simple toggle that I am missing.
Thanks

Re: Milltronics MB24
Marty, here is the screen shot.
I tried the alt/j that brings up the jog panel.
I was was just using alt/s to start the spindle test. What I am doing wrong? I am sure it is simple, I just coulnd not find it.
Thanks..
Jeff
