Spindle fan time on adjustment

Hi all,

trying to find a way to make my spindle fan output 19 on oak run 2 minutes every 5 minutes. I’ve got it wired to my lube also and don’t want it constantly draining my air on my compressor. Is there a way to make this relay turn on for 2 minutes every 5 minutes or any other custom time configuration?

Thanks

Probably with a custom PLC program.

I'm confused. Wired to "Lube"? As in Lube pump? Wired to Air Compressor?
Please explain your system and what you are actually trying to accomplish. PIctures would be helpful too.

I agree with Marty that need a bit more clarification on how you have things wired. There is a spindle fan control already built into some of the PLC programs I think.

I modified mine so it turns the fan on after the spindle has been going for more than 15 seconds (so doesn't come on during setup tool changes), then measures the time the spindle is running for and runs the fan for twice that long after the motor stops (up to five minutes max). So a one minute run would get two minutes extra cooling after shut off and a half hour run would only get five minutes extra cooling after shut off. From factory it ran 24/7 which was annoying and unnecessary!

Making it pulse for two minutes out of five would be easily doable with two timers in a small PLC change though.

I wired mine always on but added a thermostat. They run when needed and stay on after the motor shuts off if required.

I did the same with the cooling fans in my electrical cabinet but was too lazy to mount a thermostat on the spindle motor and run wires. But it is probably the best solution given that it is actually temperature sensitive!

This is what I used - https://www.digikey.com/en/products/det ... 06E/306762

Attached to the stator housing inside the Motor Terminal Box (MTB) [it seems peckerhead is no longer acceptable.]

ashesman, can you share how you programmed your spindle cooling? I'm looking to do something similar.

I will go grab the program off the machine tomorrow night and post it up, I don't have a copy with me at the moment.
