4th Axis Rotab and a 5C Indexer

Post by martyscncgarage »

I have a Haas 7" Rotary table and a Centroid RI-5C Rotary Indexer.
Both I believe are 72:1
Both are direct driven
Both have the same AC Servo motor
Only the Rotab has pneumatic clamp

Seems to me, provided they rotate the same way, they could be used interchangeably?

Thoughts?
And I am curious to know how one would handle a customer that has the same setup but differing gear ratios?
Marc? :)

Marty, I'm curious too if anyone has a better solution. I also have two rotary tables. Both have 16 in-oz motors, but different worm ratios. Right now, I have a text file I keep on the desktop that has the max speed, backlash, and turns per inch that I manually change when switching between the tables. I usually keep a 3-jaw chuck on the bigger 8" table and a 5-C collet closer on the smaller 6" one.

One has hydraulic clamp and the other is pneumatic. I solved that little problem with a little 6:1 air over oil hydraulic intensifier installed on the hydraulic one so as far as CNC12 is concerned both are pneumatic clamps.
Cheers,

Tom

Tom, I guess we are the exception to the rule with 2 rotary axis. Your idea is what I would have done if both rotabs had different configuration. I'm pretty sure they are both 72:1. They are direct driven, unless one turns opposite of the other. Not a big deal.
