You can mix encoders. Yes, you change the appropriate axis encoder count. If you use a 2500line encoder, then your entry would be 10,000

My next step is to get this encoder issue solved by replacing the one that is not working on my system. I'll be ordering the 2500 line one that polar helped me pick out. Once I get that installed, I will go back to square one..... again.

Encoder test only requires you to have All in One DC powered up so that it can provide power to the encoders. PID screen will show you the encoder counts as well as the Asterisk next to the axis letter. The * is the index pulse. Turn the shaft slowly.

Success!

All encoders working properly.

Just have to fab an adapter for the new encoder from automation direct. I had a hard time reading their drawing specs, I thought this would bolt in. Oh well, that's an easy fix.

Can someone confirm that I don't need the blue wire on the new encoder (0 V) ? Working fine without it.

Onward and upward.

Yes, you should wire that 0V to COM
You have 8 wires and the shield. The shield carries through and eventually gets soldered to the DE9 shell

I've been doing a lot of reading and watching Marty's videos in preparation for the next steps and I have a few preliminary questions.

The machine has been sitting for a few years so I wanted to make sure that the oiling system was working before I actually moved anything with the servo motors. I'll have some specific questions about that system later.

About the servo motors, I understand their theory, though I haven't been able to figure out exactly how the ALLinOne will move them. Do they operate on varying voltage (is that what controls the speed of their feed)? And how can I determine what voltage I need to drive them? I found a rectified 24 volt source (in the system that I am replacing) and drove them briefly back and forth just to see them move on their own. I don't have a lot of information on them (see the pics for numbers).

Edited: Also, the instructions and videos talk about "shielding" for the servo motors. My current system does not have that in the two wires connecting them to the old controller. Do I need to upgrade those wires, too?

Page 36 talks about "electrically configuring" inputs. How do I determine what I need? 5, 12, or 24?

Why is there a choice between "sourcing" and "sinking". I understand "sourcing" better as it relates more to automotive and household wiring, which I'm more familiar with.
