XP VS WINDOWS 7

Hi all:
I am running cnc11 version 3.06 on windows xp.
Can I upgrade to cnc11 version 3.08 with windows xp?
or do I need to go up to windows 7 ?
(hardware is MPU11 with DC3IOB)

Windows 7/8 are the only operating systems supported for CNC11 3.08 . Attempting to run on earlier operating systems may lead to incompatibility issues.

will it matter whether the win 7 is 32 or 64 bit?

It will work on either, but the 64 bit version is the recommended version unless you have some dire of a program that is not 64 bit compatible. The 64 bit version will allow the OS to address 4GB and above of RAM along with numerous speed improvements due to software being written for 64 bit environments.
