I have just acquired a DM45 NC mill. What type oil is used in the spindle gear box? Does it also oil the spindle bearings?
This machine is probably 20 years old and I would like to service it before running it. Any suggestions or links to manuals and documentation would be appreciated.

That machine is a Top Tech DM45. Similar to a Rong Fu - 45.

Rong Fu manual says to use ISO68 oil but I am not sure exactly what that means.

You want something that resists foaming. Do these gear heads have yellow metals in them? Yellow metals means you shouldn't use modern 75w-90 differential oil with sulfur in it. A Gear oil designed for a manual car transmission would be better as these are yellow metal safe to protect the synchronizes.

Thanks. I'll search for information on the two similar machines. ISO 68 I think is what precision Mathews uses. I'll keep searching for the correct oil and a manual that explains the gizmos on the spindle gearbox.

ISO68 would be common way lube oil (e.g. Mobil Vactra #2).

ISO68 is actually a viscosity rating. For a gearbox, I would use something like Mobil Mobilgear 600 XP 68—Mineral Base Oil, or Mobil SHC 626—Synthetic Base Oil. Those are both machine gear oils. Mobil Vactra #2 and Vacuoline 1409 are ISO68 slide and way oils with adhesion modifiers, while DTE 26 is an ISO68 hydraulic oil for machines.
