Thanks cncsnw,
I think you are 100% correct and it makes sense now that you have explained it.
I will go through the process of setting up "precision mode / position mode" but may just try velocity mode first to verify operation. Not sure yet.
Will follow TB295 to the letter and report back.

The amount of parameters to change is actually pretty low at 14 parameter numbers so may just do this through the keypad on the drive instead of SigmaWinplus and just make sure i record all previous parameters carefully just in case.

Cheers
Jules

I should add that the cable required for connection to these particular model drives is actually the YS-12 Cable NOT YS-11 as indicated in TB295. (Future reference for anyone else going through this)

And this is why a FRESH report would have helped. Marc would have been able to look at it and see how you set CNC12 up.... ;)

No, I would not be able to tell how the drives were set up from a Report.

But I would have been able to tell how CNC12 was set up, and therefore how CNC12 expected the drives to be set up.

You are so literal Marc, yes, that's what I meant. I'll go edit that right now :)

Update Guys,
Early this AM I manually re programmed the three Yaskawa Axis Drives. Double checked parameters and all good. (Also recorded old parameters)
you were bang on Marc.
Now when I go to MPG I do not se any creep. perfect.
Is it normal to see digits in the DRO under MPG but not in the main screen? I just have dashes. But again when in MPG all encoder / coordinate info is there.

MPG works and i can Jog in any direction. Jogging is smooth but is limited to 100ipm at present as it gets changed later.

So the point I'm at now is step #4 -a.) TB295. I have read both the Sigma 1 and Sigma II manuals and I don't see how to determine the correct setting for the "Moment of Inertia". I see in the Sigma II manual it is parameter Pn103 which is currently set at "0000".
Hoping you can point me in the right direction Marc. Once i get over this hurdle I think the rest of the auto-tune will be simple. Just don't want to screw it up.

There seems to be a little contradiction in instructions in TB295 VS the Oak Setup manual
-TB295 states in section 6 that an Auto-tune in Centroid PID mode is required. Accel set to 0.375
-Oak Install Manual section 6.7 states if using Yaskawa Drive refer to TB267 which also requires Auto-tune but Accel set to 0.500.
Just a little confusing that's all.

I have attached the report this time. (I hear ya Marty!)

Overall things are looking good thus far and I'm very optimistic as the support here is second to none!

Thanks

Jules,
You are saying MPG in your statement, do you mean MDI?
Until you home the machine your DRO's will show dashes.
Not sure if how you have configured the Machine Control Screen (Post a screen shot)
But you can configure it not to home to switches and set home right where its at when you press Cycle Start. Set it to JOG in the Control Screen (until you finish testing and configuring your home switches and setting your soft limits)

Hello Marty,
You are correct. Was an very early morning.... MDI is what I meant.
Ok so the display will remain as dashes until later in the setup when the homing setup procedure is complete. I'm not that far along just yet, hopefully tomorrow AM. Makes sense though, thank you.

got it....I'm not a coffee drinker...I have to be careful first thing in the morning too!

If you are still in JOG as shown in the picture above, feel free to press cycle start to set the DRO's to zero.
Yes, you need to set axis directions and you need to finish tuning the motors and then move on to calibrating the axis.

Servo drive tuning can be a fairly low priority at this point, since the drives were already installed and working on this machine.

If they seem to respond to commands consistently, then move on to more important things: encoder counts, turns ratios, direction, travel limits, limit switches, etc..

If you are using position/precision mode, then you will want to run Centroid's delay-time auto tuning once you get the encoder counts and turns ratios set.

I would set the accel/decel time to something around 0.30 or 0.35 seconds on each axis. You are probably not going to want rapid rates much over 300 in/min, so that should be a reasonable acceleration rate.
