Keyboard control

Post by cncjeff1 »

I have a client with two Centroid controlled mills. Both are running CNC10, Version 2.70. One is an M-15 (#4476) that has been updated with an Aaeon PCM-8152 motherboard. The other is an M400 (originally #6962, now with updated console #10960). This control has an Asus M4N68T-M V2 motherboard. When using Alt-S on the M15, control response is immediate, just like using the Cycle Start button. On the M400 however, the first time using Alt-S to "load the program", response is immediate. Using Alt-S again to "start the program", there is a delay in response of up to 10 seconds before the program actually starts running. If I wait the 10 seconds before using Alt-S the second time, response is immediate. Cycle start button however works as expected. Any ideas as to how this can be remedied? Possible BIOS issue? CPU7 versus CPU10 issue?

Are you testing with the same G-code program?
Is the program running from the local disk in both cases?
Both take 2 presses, but the M400 has a long delay, correct?

Is p220 smoothing 0 on both?

I tried several different programs, always the same result.

Parameter 220 is 0 on the M15 and on the M400 it is 1. Could this be the difference? Some time ago, when updating to 2.70, I had to change P220 to 0 on the M15 because it was hesitating after each move. Changing P220 to 0 fixed this problem. I never had a reason to heck it on the M400. I will make the change on the M400 and see if it makes a difference.

Smoothing can require a lot of calculations before the run. Without a high end motherboard/CPU, the time may be significant.

You called it. I changed P220 to 0 and no more wait. How do I mark this topic Resolved? I do however have another question, but I suspect it is the difference between the CPU7 and CPU10. When the M15 had Smoothing turned on, it would hesitate after each move. The M400 never did this. Is this due to the not insignificant differences between the two CPU motion cards? Also, it may have been that I was not paying enough attention, but I thought that if I used the Cycle Start button, there was no wait. Possible? If yes, any idea why?
Thanks again for the help.

CPU7 and CPU10 are equivalent in almost all cases as far as processing power. There were 3 different DSPs with some speed changes, but that rarely comes in to play on 4 or less axis systems.

My guess is that the compact motherboard/CPU in your M15 is slower than the M400 PC. Smoothing was not available when M15s were shipping. It is possible that they simply do not have the processing power to support it.
