Looking for Oak + Estun lathe retrofit input

Post by xr135R »

Hello,
I am getting ready to retrofit my 2009 Precision Mathews 1330 CNC lathe to the Oak board and Estun 1K motors and drive setup. The machine is a China built CK6132 flat bed with a 6 position tool turret and is in like new condition. The Siemens 802C operating system / controller is locked up and I have exhausted all possibilities of getting it back on line. Help for this system is almost non existent for the little guy.

This said, I'm looking for anyone who has used the Oak/Estun route to convert their lathe and and can tell me how its all working out. Pointers, tips, anything would be appreciated before I start tearing this machine down.
Thank you very much for your time.

i have a jet 1340 lathe that i converted to cnc. i just used acorn board and 12nm closed loop stepper motors and drivers off ebay. they are plenty powerfull and cheap. Works flawlessly. I added precision homing switches from automation direct. (metrol) Also ballscrew mapped the screws using a digital dro. I have repeatablity of .001 and usually its less than that. Only used cheap ballscrews from automation for less. used a big on on z 32mm but it works great.

Thank you occustoms for the reply! Sounds like you are having good success with your converted machine. I notice your profile also mentions you have the OAK board as well. If so, do you have this on another machine also?
Thanks,
Erik

Yes im have a fadal mill that im in the middle of converting over to oak. IF you have any question or need pics of the lathe setup pm me. It was pretty easy and straight foward. im also going to upgrade the lathe with a 5hp motor and vfd so that the acorn can control spindle speed.
