Sir,
I entered the comand prompt. I am showing c and cdrom. See Picture. I powered the computer down and unpluged the power and flat ribbon cable from the cdrom, thinking that it might be seeing it first and not allowing the usb flash to be reconised. I powered it back on and it is showning the same. I noticed that at the top of the picture the Linux is versoin 2.271 while my Centroid screen is showing 1.51. Is it possible that this system got an upgrade?

For what it's worth, the option flag I specified with the "ls" command was "-l", not "-1". Read that as "minus ell".

But, it is evident that the system is not mounting the USB drive, because there is no "a" or "b" in the list.

Does the light on the USB drive light up when you plug it in? Does that same USB port work to connect a keyboard?

Are you plugging into one of the USB ports in the back of the computer, which are soldered to the motherboard?

Or are you plugging into one of the USB ports on the front of the PC case, which are connected to the motherboard via cables?

Sir,
I had been using the front usb ports. I plugged a brand new USB keyboard into the back ports, and pulgged the USB Thumb drive into a back port as well. Restarted the computer with both plugged in. The Light on the thumbdrive came on and stayed on, the power light on the keyboard came on as well. The keyboard did not work at all. I went back to the ls -l /cncroot comand and the attached picture is what I got. I had some problems a while back with this unit not wanting to read the floppy and got it straightened out. I was advised to reload the CNC10 off of 3 floppy discs. I got things to work since then and never had to reload it. I replaced the floppy disc drive with a brand new unit identical to the original that was in the computer. Maybe I need to put the floppy into this new computer and reload the CNC10 afterall. I feel that getting the USB to work is important. I have a job later this coming week that this machine has enough travel to do the whole part. Its a bridgeport series 2. I last ran these paert on my bridgeport seires 1 machine and had to only cut half of the part and then turn the part 180deg. and run the second half.
Thank you for the information about the linux revision. Thank you for your help!!!

Next, try letting the the computer fully boot up and start running CNC10, before plugging in the USB drive. I suspect the automount works better that way.

Sir, Same result from the ls -l /cncroot comand as last time. I tried two diffrent usb ports on the back side. I tried to load a program and tried acess the floppy and same response, pathway does not exist or no path message.

If you want to access the floppy drive, you will need to run "install-floppy" from a command prompt.

My guess is that either the new motherboard's USB hardware is not supported by the old Linux version; or the new motherboard's USB ports are faulty.

If you put in a hard drive containing Microsoft Windows and boot into that, are you able to access the USB ports? If so, then you could try purchasing a solid-state hard drive with CNC10 v2.73 (which uses a significantly newer version of Linux). If not, then you need to find a different motherboard: preferably one that has been proven to work with multiple CNC10 versions.

Sir, I purchased this computer from an Ebay computer seller, so, there is probably nothing wrong with the computer. Since I was trying to match up with what I had before and the USB ports would not work in the previous computer either. I am leaning toward the motherboards are not compatible with this version of Linux. Motherboards are cheap on E-bay. So I feel that buing one is probably my best option. Is there a list of motherboards that are known work with CNC10 1.51 and have the socket 939 conection for my Centroid board to plug into. I have the TB114 rev 5 Bios settings list of motherboards. Is there 1 on there that is bset suited for my CNC10? Also is there a proscessor that works better with CNC10?

Sir, Looks like I confused the socket name for the CNC 10 board to plug into. I am obviously not a compuer expert or ant thing close.

Look up Centroid tech bulletin TB218, or see the list of PCI motherboards at http://www.cncsnw.com/Motherboards.htm.

"PCI" is the name of the slot that the CPU10 board plugs into.

I would look first for a Gigabyte GA-M68M-S2P, Gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2, or Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P.

Next choices would be any of the later MSI boards: MS-7309, MS-7253, MS-7181, or MS7104.
