Re: Oak controller with ACDC-60s on Fadal VMC3016; control issue questions
Thanks! I'm finally back at it now that I'm wrapping up a composites project.
I got the values entered and ran a dummy program followed by a program I had to write in a pinch to run the VMC as a lathe to get a custom taper and everything looks steady.
A new question... not sure if it needs to be a new thread or not...
The Fadal never had limit switches installed but instead used reference marks.
I see that there's a Tech Bulletin #127 that refers to this but when I set it to "Ref Mark - HS" and press cycle start the Z-axis just continues to move in the positive direction a few inches before I hit cycle stop.
f I do the "F1 Setup -> F3 Config -> F2 Mach. -> F3 Find Home" which gets me to "Find Index Pulse" and hit cycle start, I get the error message "Unable to find home switch"
With the original encoders on the Fadal electronics this would align the encoder to a dot on the coupler with a line on the encoder body. I have the Centroid provided 10000 line encoders installed now.
Is there still a way to home to Reference Marks?

You are correct. The FADAL TRM I recently refitted with OAK and DMM Servos worked as it did previously with the FADAL control.
It seems to me your Z axis index pulse is not making to the control. Double check your wiring?
Also, ALWAYS post a fresh report. So we can take a look at things.
Could you please do this?
Marty

Sorry, completely forgot about attaching the report.
Is there a way to edit that program code to have the X or Y axis go first? I suppose alternatively I can rename the axes accordingly to have the X labeled as the Z for this purpose.

Update, I did switch the Z and Y axis so now the actual Y axis on the Fadal is labeled Z in the controller. Same issue. The motor just keeps moving in one direction multiple motor rotations. This axis has the Centroid provided encoder cable going from the 10k line encoder to the ACDC-60 drive.

In the report you posted, you have Home currently set to JOG:
Configuration file
CNC12 Jogboard v. 4.140 setup file for MPU11 serial number 1114190882
DRO display units: Inches
Machine units: Inches
Max spindle (high range): 9000.0
Min spindle (high range): 100.0
Machine home at pwrup: Jog
PLC type: Standard
Jog Panel type Jogboard
Jog panel required: Yes
Remote Drive & Directory:
Fourth axis level offset 0
Fifth axis level offset 0
Should be: Machine home at pwrup: Ref Mark-HS

Oops, pulled the automated backup instead of the one I manually created after I tried to switch to the Ref HS setting. Both had the same date which is why I missed that.
Here's the one from a few minutes ago.

In the PID screen when you rotated the motor shafts, did you ever see the Asterisk pop up in front of the axis when the encoder counts were counting up? The asterisk is an indicator of the index pulse, it MAY be hard to catch.

So you switched motor cables, and nothing changed? Suggesting the index pulse is not coming in on either axis?q4stix wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 10:21 pm Update, I did switch the Z and Y axis so now the actual Y axis on the Fadal is labeled Z in the controller. Y moved when Z was homing and kept going?

When manually jogging I can see the asterisk on all three axes. I was able to even jog and land on the index pulse (asterisk stays on) with the machine Y axis.

Re: Oak controller with ACDC-60s on Fadal VMC3016; control issue questions
I think I see your problem. I don't see the CNCM.HOM file in your report.
Copy this file into your CNCM directory and then try and home the machine.
You can look at the file with a text editor. Be aware it is going to move all three axis in the POSITIVE direction to seek the index pulse.
Substitute M92 for M91 if you need it to move in the negative direction to seek the pulse.
This file worked fine for the FADAL I had, because of course you want to move Z+ and X & Y were not at the end of their travels.
You will have to set your soft limits appropriately as well.
Here is an EXAMPLE of how mine were set:
CNC12 v. 4.14 coordinates file
Axis Minus Plus Return Return Return Return
Limit Limit #1(G28) #2(G30) #3 #4
X -15.0000 15.0000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000
Y -7.0000 7.0000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000
Z -14.0000 0.0000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000
