Rotary Axis Homing (Resolved)

Post by Daniels Precision »

I have been trying to get my rotary 4th axis up and running. I have added the necessary M92/C and M26/C to the .hom file. While trying to home the 4th axis the table rotates approximately 45 degs. and then I get a "Switch failed to clear, homing cycle cancelled" message. I tried M91/C to approach the switch from the other direction to no avail. The home switch PLC input #7 does see the switch.
I also tried mechanically disconnecting the motor, rotating the shaft 180 degs., and reconnecting it to see if I was perhaps too close to the motor index pulse. (I had that issue with my X and Y axes). That didn't seem to make any difference.

My machine is a Bridgeport V2XT with an All-in-1-DC and a DC1. My rotary table is a Yuasa UDX-17001. I have replaced the original Mitsubishi AC servo drive with a CMC DC brushed servo.

Either your switch is configured as the wrong type (NO/NC), or your encoder pulse is too close to the home switch position.

For the later, move the home switch a little, or rotate the motor 1/4 of a turn.

Also, your google link doesn't work.
Cheers,

Tom

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Tom is spot on, it appears your switch in your ROTAB is not clearing. From your message log:

His suggestion is what I would try, un bolt the servo motor, turn the shaft a half turn and reinstall it. If that is a pain, and you have easiy access to the encoder. Remove the encoder, turn it a half turn and reinstall it. Try and home the machine

Look at the diagnostic screen and check the input, for the rotab (toggle the diagnostic screen with Alt+i) Upper row of virtual led's, starting at the far left end (use the keyboard arrows to move the box over the LED and watch the discription, just below the last row of LED's bottom of the screen)

You can jog the rotab to make sure the input is turing on and off with the mechanical/proximity sensro. You would have to go to the PID screen and watch for the *to flash on and off next to the rotary axis as you SLOWLY jog the axis. If its on all the time, there is a problem with the encoder index pulse.

Re: Rotary Axis Homing

I finally found my problem!
Taking Tom's suggestion, I repositioned the motor several times with the home switch in both the N/C and N/O configurations. The problem was still there. It still looked like the PLC was never seeing the switch.
When I looked at the Motor Parameters page, for some reason the default settings for the 4th axis Home+ and Home- were both set to 30. So of course the control was never going to see the signal on input #7. I changed the Home+ to 7 and the Home- to 0 and now everything works!
My next issue will be getting the M10 Clamp and M11 Unclamp to work.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Marty, I am still not up to speed on attaching Google photos. I did it once before. But this time it didn't work for me.

When you create a google photo album, you put all your photos in it. Then you click on the SHARE Icon, click create a link. That is the link you post.

Glad you are going.
