When upgraded from CNC11 to CNC12, no power to servos

Post by tsoftwerks »

UPDATE: I have an intermittent (bad) servo power relay :(

Hi,

I just upgraded my CNCPC to windows 10 pro, from 7 pro. Then I installed CNC 12. It was all working fine under CNC 11 a few days ago, now just after upgrading everything, the gremlins came out. So I have a V2XT with Allin1DC. when I did the install over CNC 11, it looked to pick up the PLC settings, but I did a restore just in case. Well at first I had an issue with it wanting MPG, so I set that to 0 after combing the forums. Now when I cycle start to set home, I don't hear the power going to the servos like I did before upgrading, and sure enough when I try to jog them I get full power without motion error. Also on the jog panel, Control-i won't toggle between increment and constant drive mode... I must be missing some parameters under CNC12?

Thanks,
Ben

UPDATE: Ok, this morning I am getting power to servos, but I can't get out of increment mode on the jog panel... plus the jog panel on the right seems non responsive to clicks... the clicks register, but it won't do the function. I attached pics to show when I have alt-j jog panel open, and hit ctl-i, the light changes on the right panel, but it doesn't leave increment mode...

Ugg, now back to no power going to servos, get full power with no motion errors

so my last issue is just the right touch panel does not respond to touches or clicks, what do I need to enable to get that working? Thanks

You need a PLC program that has been extended to support the virtual control panel.

Someone may or may not have already combined virtual control panel support with the Bridgeport Boss spindle speed up/down and spindle brake features that you presumably need. If so, and if you can find it, then you can use that. Otherwise you will need to edit it in yourself, or hire someone to do it for you.

If it comes to that, it will be a much shorter path to add Bridgeport Boss features to a current VCP-enabled PLC program, than to add VCP support to the old Bridgeport Boss PLC program.

kudos for the tip. I haven't touched my machine in years, so this is all coming back. For some reason I thought it would be implemented through the interface, like keyboard commands...

I looked through the posts and another user implemented the VCP on their boss, so I just copied it and everything is working so far... yeah! :D

Just curious,
How is your spindle controlled? VFD? Air motor driving the mechanical variable speed mechanism in the head?
I am wondering if you chose the best PLC for that machine....

I have a VFD powering the spindle, but am using air to control the speed, and I don't have it wired up in the plc to control it from code, so I have to manually adjust speed...

What kind of VFD? Sensorless Vector like an Automation Direct GS3?
I think I would almost fix the pulleys in the head and use the VFD for spindle control. Then just use a stock PLC.
Are you wanting to use a wireless MPG and or Virtual Control Panel?
Just my thoughts....

I have a GS2. I thought about doing that, I think I was worried about cooling the TEFC stock motor at low speeds, as well as torque issues. Shouldn't I swap out my motor for something more compatible with VFD?

I don't plan on going with the MPG, just the VCP, maybe later try and wire up the old V2XT feedrate knob at some point.
