Probe, Operator Panel, & MPG interface connectors for OAK board???

Post by RTech »

I'm working on building some cables to interface to my OAK board (installing on a lathe). I've purchased the Yaskawa servo drive cables from Centroid, but I would like to interface the following connectors on the OAK board:

Digitizing / Probe connector
Operator's Panel connector
MPG Hand-wheel connector

I've found the details on interfacing to the PLCADD and spare AXIS connectors so I can add a MPG hand-wheel for both X & Z, but I haven't found details on the above connectors.

Anybody here that can tell or point me to the details?

Almost any factory schematic you download will show the pin-outs for those connectors.

Appendix B of the Oak Control Installation Manual has the hardware guide for the Oak board. Page 7 of that appendix has internal circuitry diagrams for the inputs and outputs on the MPG and Probe headers. Page 15 of that appendix has a table showing which inputs and outputs are on which headers, and what type they are (so you can cross-reference with the interface diagrams on page 7).

Thanks, I see that and I'm planning on utilizing some of those inputs.

The problem is I don't see a reference to the manufacturer / part number for those interface connectors on the OAK board. I can probably figure it out by looking at the board when it arrives, but I'd like to place an order at Digi-Key today.

Centroid generally ships a goody bag with the board, containing the necessary connector contacts and housings.

The jog panel, probe, and power plugs are Molex Mini-Fit Jr.

The MPG plug is a fine-pitch JST connector, but I do not know the exact series.

As far as the probe cable goes, spend the $50 and buy it from Centroid ready made. Plug it into Oak mount the other end to the cabinet. Done. Supports their probes TT and DP

You did well buying the Yaskawa cables already made up.
Do the same for the MPG and Probe.....your time is worth something and you'll be sure their done correctly and not damage anything.

Marc is correct, Centroid sends a bag of connector parts with the Oak and All in One. Did you not get it?

I made my own cables for the MPG and probe, so I reversed out the mating connectors.
The mating connector for the MPG socket is JST PUDP-24V-S, and uses JST SPUD-002T-P0.5 contacts.
The mating connector for the probe socket is AMP 1-106527-0 and uses AMP 106528-2 contacts.

I did not determine the Jog Panel connector because the only thing you can connect to that is a Centroid Jog Panel, so no need to make your own cable. The communication protocol is proprietary and unpublished.
Cheers,

Tom
