Gentlemen, This is my first post on the forums, so bare with me. I purchased a 2004 Atrump machine with a M400S console on it. It worked fine but now the ATC timeout with a 9020 code. Looked this up and the sensor or cabling is probably bad. My question is how do you test the sensor? Thanks for your help in advance and I will probably post a lot more as I learn this control.

Re: Old M400S tool changer help
When the 9020 fault occurs, does the carousel begin to rotate at all?
Or does the carousel just sit still?

Yes. it moves about 1 1/2 pockets and stops.
Re: Old M400S tool changer help
The tool counter is a proximity sensor, wired to INP26 on the PLC.
You can use the Alt-i display to watch INP26 as the carousel starts to rotate, but things may happen too fast to reliably see there. In the most common arrangement, the sensor should activate, closing the input, for a bit more than half a turn of the carousel motor shaft, mid-way between tool positions. When the input is closed, it will turn Green on the Alt-i display.
When the carousel is stopped and locked at a tool position, the sensor should not be triggered. The input should be open, and INP26 should show Red on the Alt-i display.
Here is a picture of the tool counter sensor, and the cam which triggers it, on an Atrump Maximill of about the same vintage as your machine.

Re: Old M400S tool changer help
Thank you for the information. I will take a look at it today and see what is going on. The machine was factory rebuild in 2015 replacing the carousel motor. I do not see in the paperwork that the sensor was replaced.

Re: Old M400S tool changer help
Thank you for your help cncsnw. I learned a lot about the tool changer. The problem was simply a stripped bolt on the sensor mount...... It had moved just enough to not activate. All is running well now.
