Hi all, my cnc runs great! just a couple of questions:
1) I have "go fasty" brush less motors with 2,500 line encoders, 10,000 counts per REV with 7.5 motor turns per inch. It runs great at rapid traverse 250 IPM. I can go 400 IPM if i want. My question is: thats a lot of encoder counts being sent to MPU11. If i go 400 IPM's will that many counts be to much for MPU to handle, or is it ok? ( Accurate positioning is very important to me. I can scale down the encoder counts being sent out of the drive, if that’s to many)
2) The Centroid/Ajax software is nice, and that’s what we are going to use. I do have the Mach3 software, so just for fun, can i try Mach software in my system, or is there a hardware difference in your circuit boards? ( i am very familiar with the Mach3 software, and i don't feel it is a good software for our hardcore machine shop environment. I have more than 20 cnc mills )
Thanks,
Bill
BTW, I have sn#A900168 , MPU11, GPIO4D, windows software ver CNC11, and Ajax/Centroid operating software
**RESOLVED** How many, is to many encoder counts?

Re: How many, is to many encoder counts?
Bill,
The MPU11 can handle 25000000 counts/sec.
You will not have a problem if you increase your max rate to 400ipm.
All Mill Ajax systems have the ability to run Mach3 or Centroid software, there are no differences in the hardware.

When requesting support, please ALWAYS post a current report. Find out how to take a report from your Acorn, CNC11 or CNC10 system here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecvg0VJp1oQ.
If your question is PLC, Macro or program related, please also post a copy of the program or macro as well.

Re: How many, is to many encoder counts?
Mpu11 handle
Encoder input frequency (per channel)* Max 6000 khz i.e 6Mhz according to the Mpu11 manual
.As long as your max rate is under this frequency then no problem .
As you mention
1turn = 10000 encoder counts
7.5 turns =75000 counts
75000 encoder counts = 1inch
now on 250IPM your frequency is
75000 x 250 counts /min =250 in/min
18750000 counts/min =250 in/min
In sec
312500 sounts/sec =4.167 in/sec
0.3125 Mhz or 312.5 Khz frequency on 250 in/min
upon 400ipm your Frequency is 500Khz or .5 Mhz
So you can easily increase the Max rate .
Yes you can try mach3 on Gp4iod
