The Oak axis connectors have a drive reset output. Just connect that to your drives reset input and it will handle resseting the drive whenever e-stop is pressed.

I'm pretty sure that line was connected correctly in my cables. I had to get into them to sort out some wiring errors on the Oak side and I ended up going through all the lines, paying special attention to the reset and enable because of the problems I'm having.

It seems to reset most faults, but the solid red light, over current fault won't reset without removing logic power for some reason. I asked about that and never got an explanation.

Personally, I think there is a flaw in the firmware if the drive can not be fully reset with its RESET pin cycled.
It should be brought to DMM's attention.

That was brought to their attention. They basically told me that it can't happen so I sent a video of it happening. I didn't ever really get an explanation after that. I was also assured that these things have the most current firmware.

I’m thinking I may just try running it a bit with all servo power bypassing the e-stop and see how it behaves. Maybe it would be fine with just the Oak controlling the enable line? If I’m not shutting off the motor power I may never see the weird fault.

Do what you need to do for trouble shooting/diagnostic purposes.....

Well I decided that if nothing else I wanted to see the machine move.

Mounted all the motors and routed the cables. Ran auto tune with the DMM software. It didn’t seem to do anything, motors didn’t budge, but it came up with some new numbers.

Ran it as it was before. All the axis move nicely through their full range with the exception of z. I left a ball screw couple cover screw out just a little too far and ran the head into it at 100ipm several times before I figured out what was going on

I decided to try leaving all the servo power on, all the time. It worked great until I ran the head into that dang screw. Z position fault and the Oak couldn’t reset it via the e-stop or the vcp reset button. I had to power cycle the logic again. It will still clear encoder faults okay (unplugging the cable). But maybe running up hard on something like that is different?

At least it moved around and the motors seemed to do just fine. I was only jogging it at 100ipm but the head seemed to move up and down just fine. I decided to call it a day and bask in the satisfaction of getting it to move. Tomorrow I’ll get the screw out of the way and see if I can get it to home to the switches.

Test.
When all the drives are on line, green LEDs, unplug an encoder from a drive. It should fault, get the drive fault message on the display. Plug the encoder back in and cycle the physical Estop button. NOT the VCP reset.
The drive should reset

Yeah that test works. I got the idea from your video. It will clear with the e-stop when it’s that encoder error.

One thing I noted at least once after running it into the screw is that it started out blinking like a normal fault and then turned to the solid red light before I cleared it. I should have stopped and read the drive with DMMDRV but I didn’t think of it.

It should have faulted with a flashing red.
