How Do I Update My CPU10 Control To The Latest Software?

The easiest way to upgrade to the current CPU10 software (2.66) is to purchase a new SSHD from Ajax for $395.00
This price includes a new 4GB SSHD, IDE reader and 80 pin cable. If your PC meets the requirements , this takes
less than 10 minutes and you can keep your old SSHD and reader as a backup should you ever have a problem.

For those that want to do the upgrade themselves, let's look at the options:
If you have 2.6x or higher, upgrading is simple just download the update from here:

When the download is complete:
1. Make a report backup. Press F7 -Utilities, F7 -Report

2. When the report window comes up, use the arrow keys to highlight and select a directory on your usb stick and press F10 to accept.
This will create a backup of all you machine configuration files and plcprograms.

3. Unzip the file to a directory on your usb stick.
NOTE: This will create several zip files in the directory you extracted v266up_1_2.zip to do not extract them further.

4. Plug the usb stick into the control, press F7 -Utilities, F2 -Update.

5. When the update windows comes up, use the arrow keys to navigate and highlight the directory you extracted the original zip to and press F10 to accept.

6. When the update is complete, poweroff your system and restart.


If you have 2.3x or earlier, we highly recommend that you consider purchasing a new card and reader for $395.00 - The ability to keep your old card
and reader as an emergency backup and the time you save will pay for itself many times over. If you still wish to try it yourself, read on.

Before doing anything else, make a report backup of your exisitng configuration:
1. Make a report backup. Press F7 -Utilities, F7 -Report

2. When the report window comes up, use the arrow keys to highlight and select a directory on your usb stick and press F10 to accept.
This will create a backup of all you machine configuration files and plcprograms.


Next, it needs to be understood that 2.6x uses a different OS kernel than did versions 2.3x and earlier. For this reason, flashcards with versions
2.3x and earlier installed on them can not be "upgraded" to v2.6x or higher. A new flash card must be built from an .iso image and (most likely)
a new reader installed.

Now, consider the PC requirements of v2.6x and higher:

CPU Required: 2Ghz+ P4 class or better
RAM: 512MB min, 1GB recommended
SSHD: 2GB min, 4GB recommended - We use SANDISK Extreme III 4GB
SSHD Speed: 30 MB/sec read and write
Flashcard reader: FabIA FB4617-G V2.2 w/DMA enabled. This is what we use, we offer no guarantees that another brand and/or model will work.

Configuring the PC Hardware on your linux/control PC:

1. Install the Flash card reader on IDE0

2. Install the CDROM on IDE1

3. Configure your motherboard for the CD-ROM to be the first boot device. You can do this by pressing the delete key at the first page during PC bootup to enter your PC's Bios settings. Once in the Bios Settings the boot sequence is typically found under Advanced Bios Features, set 1st boot device to CDROM and 2nd boot device to HDD-0 then save and exit.


Installing the software:

You can download the .iso image here(409MB):

On your Windows computer, burn the image to a CD using image burning software such as the free imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/
If you don't know what an .iso image is and how to burn an image to a CD to create a bootable CD, I highly recommend you reconsider your decision to "do it yourself"

On your linux/control computer

1. Insert flash card before power up.
2. Insert the CD, power up and wait for the CNC10/CNC11 installation menu.
3. Power up and BOOT the PC
4. Hold down the "alt" key and press the "F6" to bring up a command prompt.
5. Type "fdisk-l" (no quotes, lowercase L) press enter, confirm that the Flashcard is mapped as hda.
If not, double check your hardware configuration from above
6. Type "exit" (no quotes) press enter to close the command prompt
7. Select “install CNC Linux”.
8. “Select flash card Device” – slect “hda” - Press tab key to move between different fields.
9. “Choose machine type” – Mill or Lathe.
10. “Select PLC program” – Usually “none” is the best option. You can use the report backup created earlier to install your exact PLC program later
11. Select AC or DC drive - DC3IO and SERVO3IO select DC
