**RESOLVED** Centroid CNC and Windows 7?

Post by lawrencl »

Hi:

I got this announcment from a Centroid dealer on the web:

Starting on Feb. 11th all CENTROID MPU11 based CNC control systems will be using Windows 7 as the operating system, the Linux OS will no longer be offered or supported for MPU11 based systems.

Is this true?

Thanks,

Lawrence

That is correct. MPU11 systems will be Windows only from this point forward. Linux had become too difficult to support due to hardware incompatibilities.

Over the years, when new devices were introduced such as -SATA, USB, Video Chipsets, CPU's, Ethernet chipsets, Motherboard chipsets etc... etc.. etc.. Centroid would be forced to go to a new kernel (new Linux version) which required an immense amount of time to re-configure scripts, build iso's and test.

Like it or not, when a PC hardware manufacturer makes something they make sure that -with Windows at least- it just works. The same can't be said for Linux.
