There are numerous posts buried in the forums already regarding Fusion 360 usage and posts. I'm not sure why Autodesk really even has to be involved as the posts are completely open and editable. Posts can be edited directly with Java Script as well as a Visual editor that is available from Autodesk, along with a manual describing how to edit the posts, albeit a bit dated and not necessarily the most complete manual.
The capability of Fusion 360 to handle point clouds in general is independent of Centroid and the type of file that is output. Many of the input scripts for use with Fusion 360 are written and shared by users.

Centroid CNC12 is outputting the most basic, simple form of 3D information, X Y Z points in space.
Which most any CAD system should be able to read and then its up the CAD program and its operator to take it from there for further manipulation.
below is a sample of cylinder head combustion chamber digitizing data created with CNC12.
The complete file is also attached. "20r.txt"

Any CAD system can read a point cloud. No CAM system can machine a point cloud. The CAD system needs to convert the point cloud into surfaces and or solids in order for a CAM system to machine it. The surface creation is the difficult part. Most CAD systems require a considerable amount of user intervention and intuition to divy the point cloud up into regions of like smoothness and generate NURBS patches, and then stitch the patches together into a reasonable surface.
Centroid can machine a surface they digitized because they are just driving the cutting tool in the same point to point path they digitized. If you want to be able to modify the surface or apply intelligent roughing/finishing toolpaths, then it needs to be converted to surfaces and that is not easy.

I think we all understand that. If you have successfully accomplished this with Fusion 360 we would love to know all the steps involved.
Mastercam and Vectra are not allowed in this class.

I wasn't concerned with posts in this thread. I have no issue with the posts I use in Fusion. Even modded it a tiny bit.
This thread is all about Centroid digitizing being imported into 360. That's why I said what I said. Two different things are they not?

I thought you were perhaps also trying to make a program to digitize rather than just pull in the point cloud alone. This thread is all about Centroid digitizing being imported into 360. That's why I said what I said. Two different things are they not?
Fusion isnt good with point clouds or multiple polyline inport, and o ly marginal.with any poly line import with the use of a plugin. It isn't rear at even working with already watertight meshes and has a very distinct "path" to get amy thing to merge between mesh and solids, even the menu options aren't the same or even available from one type of workspace to another.
Quite frankly, as nice as Fusion 360 is, it is also a horrible mess lol.

Fusion has the basic probe maneuvers similar to what is in the Centroid.
Because you use it within 360 it is model aware and does a couple more advanced moves that you have to do manually in Centroid.
What it does not do, at least yet is do the double bump routine where you come to the wall at a predetermined fast pace, touch, back off then go back in for a final touch at a slow pace.
I haven't seen a video where just a single bump is used by any of the MFGs so 360 gives me pause in that respect.
Maybe it's on the list.
360 does not have a digitizing routine yet.
That would likely solve my problem but I would rather be able to use the pricey package I purchased beyond what it is capable of.
Bottom line is if you have a machine and no probe this seems like star wars and encourages the purchase of somebody's probe.
I know I don't want to work without one after having grown up with contact tools and co-ax indicators.

I made a quick video on how to take a digitized file, convert it to a point cloud in Rhino, and generate a surface. While this isn't Fusion360, there may be an equivalent function that can do the same.
