Allin1dc prepurchase questions

Post by AM_Little »

Machine is a 1993 Supermax YCM-40 with original Centroid M-50 controller.

Below is a picture of the plate on my x-axis servo. I’ve been told I won’t need to update the encoders as the originals will be adequate. Just wanted to verify that info.

I know I’ll need to wire DB9 connectors into the original servo wires to plug into the board.

Anything else you guys would recommend I get?

I’ll need to run the spindle on a VFD, what unit do you recommend to control/power the 5hp spindle?

On a different matter i finished up converting a lathe of mine a few weeks ago using an Acorn. Very happy with the product/result.

I was intending to get the touchscreen but see the operator control panel isn't compatible with the allin1dc yet, still applicable?

I guess I'll just stick with buying my own PC and use a mouse.

cnc11 is touch screen active, but does not have the VCP like acorn, CNC11 for allin1dc requires the Operators Control panel hardware.

cnc12 for allin1DC is about to be released and has the VCP (virtual control panel) just like the acorn version of cnc12. which can be used in place of the hardware version of the Operators Control Panel saving $765. its interesting to note that you can just both the OCP and the VCP in conjunction with CNC12 for allin1DC (and Oak)

Do you have a firm date scheduled for the cnc12 release for use with allin1?

It looks like the automation direct offerings (GS2) only allows for three phase input at the 5hp range.

Is there any offerings at 5hp that have 220v single phase input? I’m only able to get single phase at my location.

Found this one:

I would not hesitate on the All in One DC purchase!
Do you have all the existing control including transformer/buss capacitor? Take pictures and post please.

Suggest if you already have a monitor use it. If you have to buy one, buy a wide screen format monitor. ASUS 207N, there are many others. So you will be ready for CNC 12. You can buy the pendant as Keith mentioned. There is also an MPG available.

As for VFD's many will accept single phase input and give you three phase output. I have tested and am using the GENUINE Huan Yang VFD.
Suggest you buy the 10hp model for ample margin and get the GT series, not the HY.

Check out my recent video using the HY 10HP GT Series on an EMCOTURN 140 lathe with 5hp motor:
https://youtu.be/R6yr9IXEakE

I've not heard a lot of bad things about Huan Yang, so if you are going to try a chinese VFD get it from Huan Yang Electric on YouTube.

As for your SEM motors, you still have to double check which encoders are installed.
Pictoral of changing the encoders if needed: http://www.centroidcnc.com/sem_dc_servo ... rofit.html

With basic electrical skills you can do the conversion. I also did a Video series on All in One DC install on my knee mill:
https://youtu.be/UIBWF4Dryxs
(Maybe take the time to watch the series before diving in)
USE the Centroid All in One DC Installation Guide, follow it step by step, page by page!

Good luck with your build. If you run into trouble, post here. Be sure to provide specifics and when you are working with the control, post a report.

Since your original servo motors and cables were used with a Centroid control (ca. 1996 M40/M50), they are correct for the All-in-one DC.

As long as the cables are in good condition, you can use them with their existing 9-pin connectors.

Inspect the cables carefully for pinches, kinks, or breaks in the insulation.

New motor cables are available from Centroid as a plug-and-play assembly, if you do not want to resolder the MS connector.
