Is this all in one PC good enough?

Post by TRM »

Found a good deal on a nice all in one touch screen PC.
It is 64 bit. I don’t remember reading anything about 32 or 64 bit
in the PC rquirments.

No. That CPU only scores a 596 on single thread.

Complete PC requirements: http://www.centroidcnc.com/cnc_pc_perfo ... ments.html

<snip>...
CENTROID CNC PC minimum hardware and benchmark requirements for proper CNC control operation.

We highly suggest using an Intel NUC model #NUC7i3BNK and a Touch Screen LCD display
You can purchase an Intel NUC from Centroid with all the CNC software preloaded with base mill and lathe cnc configurations ready to run here.....

But if you want to build or use your own CNCPC here are the Centroid Primary CNCPC requirements:

1.) The PC CPU must have a SINGLE CORE minimum benchmark of 1500. You can look up a CPU’s benchmark # using this web site.

http://cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

Notice that this is the “Single Thread” benchmarks chart.
Using a CPU with a single thread benchmark rating higher than 1500 is required

2.) While not required...it is highly recommended to use a SSD (solid state drive) We only recommend Intel or Samsung SSD’s

3.) minimum 4 Gig’s of Ram

4.) Windows 10 that is configured for CNC control use, See this video..

5.) Ethernet port

6.) A Shielded Ethernet cable, CAT5E or better

Thanks for the fast reply. I read the requirements.
The part that has me confused is it said “single core”.
Down in the parts list to build your own PC a dual core cpu
link is given. I watched Marty’s pc build video and he used a dual core.

You can use a single, dual, quad core etc.. But it's the single core/thread benchmark that counts because the CNC12 software only runs in a single thread.

Put another way, each individual core must meet the minimum specs. Pretty much everything out there now at least 2 core and most processors are now at least 4 core. But you can 4 really slow cores for instance.
