What does the head look like...or is it now in orbit above the earth?

The head is actually not bad. Some melting between the exhaust seats, pretty typical when we push them hard.
This is a 1360cc turbocharged motorcycle application. The cylinder was already cracked at the start of the run and of course got a 'lil worse during the pass. This engine still went a 6.65 1/4 mile ET (.01 under the record at the time, although the record was reset to a 6.63 in the other lane on the same pass).

WOW! 6.65 on 2 wheels...or 1 wheel & a little bit of the other. That must be an exciting ride! Isn't it on a 1000 foot track now instead of 1320?
I saw EJ "Michigan Madman" Potter ride his Chevy V8 drag bike on our local track 3 nights in a row back in the sixties. Wild, smoky runs that looked (to me) like he was going to crash every time. When we went down & looked at the track the rubber marks were all within a couple feet of each other. Crazy? Like a fox.

Making some progress. This was a non sleevable block used for setup of boring heads and to refine the machining time. Hoping to do a block in repairable condition later today and possibly get the sleeves installed.

After a bit of headache, the Centroid CNC came through

Right on! Too bad you didn't catch a little video.
Can you take an overall picture of your machining center and the control cabinet and post them? Is this a retrofit machine or is it one of Centroid's machines?

Re: Guess it's time to research some sleeving for cylinder blocks...
Marty this is an older Centroid Atrump E320 machine with the TRT-32. It was a "factory" Centroid build in 2008. Id like to add a an air supply to the 4th axis brake as well as a spindle encoder so I can add rigid tapping as well as a spindle feed hold if I happen to begin a spindle stall. I have been using some relatively high material removal rates with adaptive machining strategies and sometimes get a little too happy lol.
If testing shows merit to this, I will be doing more of them. I am also working on completion of a Cylinder head into which I have cur out the entire combustion chambers and replaced them with bronze pucks inserts (sometimes referred to a s a "Skulled head"). This has the valve seats cut directly into the chamber material as we have been having issues with literally breaking the OEM castings between the valve seats when we push the engines hard.

Which Centroid Control does it have?
Sounds like what you want to do is possible with some PLC changes.

Control is a cnc10. I believe the clamp may already be programmed, just need to add a solenoid and the air plumbing. There is no spindle encoder so that hardware and wiring will obviously need to be added .martyscncgarage wrote: ↑Mon Aug 27, 2018 1:11 pm Which Centroid Control does it have?
