Bridgeport spindle speed encoder

Post by Joe »

My second set of questions for the day...

On our Bridgeport V2XT conversion I wanted to add a spindle speed encoder right from the get go of the conversion... but looking at the mill I can't see a good location to install it. For those who are unfamiliar with the V2XT, The head of this mill is basically the same as a standard series 1 Bridgeport, with the exception of the mid extended casting area that houses the ball screw and Z axis drive pulley. This extended section cannot really be accessed anyway (as far as I know) to add an encoder to the spinning shaft housed within. So this question probably applies to all of the Bridgeport Series 1 mills, on where the heck do you mount an encoder?

Thanks again

Dwayne Elrod makes an encoder drive which can do this.
