Centroid 10 "Ajax" Upgrade

Post by me239 »

Hi all, brand new to Centroid and recently purchased a Bridgeport Series 1 Boss 6 with an Ajax CNC10 upgrade done back in the early 2000s. Unfortunately the motherboard on the CNCPC is burned out (as well as the original power supply and the spare someone left floating inside), so that doesn't leave me with a ton of options. Looking at the Allin1DC controller, do I need to get the Bridgeport upgrade kit? I see it comes with new encoders, but would it be backwards compatible with my original encoders? I'm looking for as much of a plug and play solution that reuses my existing hardware. I considered using step/dir servo drives, but it seems the budget options can't supply the needed 120 VDC and I lose some of the accuracy and speed inherent to my servos. Plus the cost of Acorn + ample servo drivers would bring me back up to the cost of an Allin1DC. Would an Allin1DC be a true plug and play solution for my Bridgeport? Or do I absolutely need the "Bridgeport upgrade kit"? Thanks!

I believe you will be able to reuse almost all of the components for this upgrade. You may have to change the encoder wiring going from the CPU10 to the ALLIN1DC inputs.

You should be able to reuse the encoders as long as they are >= 2000 lines.
