Hi:
I have see references to a Centroid Lathe Spinde Encoder for $170.
Is there a description of this or a manual that describes installation and operation?
How would I order one?
Thanks,
Lawrence

Re: Centroid Lathe Spinde Encoder
Well, I have a little more information now. Still no part numbers.
The Spindle Speed Encoder attaches to the MPU11 board through one of the unused encoder ports.
The Spindle Speed Encoder alone is $170.
The Spindle Speed Encoder with a cable with the correct terminal ends is $ 207.
I don't know how the software accesses it or how it is used.
Presumably, it is used with lathe Threading and Constant Surface Speed routines.
More information would be helpful.
Thanks,
Lawrence

Re: Centroid Lathe Spinde Encoder
Parameter 35 in your setup screen sets the port your spindle encoder is plugged into. The number you input should be the physical port number minus 1. For example on my machines the spindle encoder is plugged into port 5 and the parameter is set to 4. When you view your F2-Motor Parameters screen there should be a small "s" between the Axis number and Label columns. The number should be the same as the port you are physically plugged into.

Hi Maint 1:
This is very helpful!
Do you know of a Centroid Manual that references the Centroid Lathe Spinde Encoder?
Do you know the Centroid Part Number for the Centroid Lathe Spinde Encoder?
Thanks,
Lawrence

Re: Centroid Lathe Spinde Encoder
Operators manual should be on the CD that came with your kit. Setup information is in section 14 I beleive. I can't really help with the spindle encoder part number either other then to suggest looking at the AjaxCNC page here http://ajaxcnc.com/cnc_components.htm On this page you will find the standard 2000 PPR that they use with their kits. For my retrofits I selected or reused all my motors and encoders. The encoders all came from GSI which you can find here http://www.microesys.com/drcEncoders/data.html It's really just a matter of determining what resolution you need and how you intend to mount it. For resolution I'd suggest 3 counts for the accuracy you need. For example if you want to be accurate to .001 then your encoder counts should represent .000333. For couplings try here http://www.dynapar.com/uploadedFiles/_S ... ngs(1).pdf
Good luck!
