Tool Touch Off plate

Post by Bob B »

I have the Tool Touch-Off plate installed and set up, but I can't get the machine to cut through the material.
It seems like the plate maco works correctly but does not cut through the 1" depth specified in the program.
My touch-off plate thickness is set to .626 and it seems that the CNC12 is not deducting this thickness from the project. It lacks .625 thickness from cutting through the material. I set up the Touch-Off using the Wizzard and it shows .626 in Parm 71. Can't figure out what I am doing wrong?
I am using the Vectric Aspire program with the Centroid Post Processor they have on their site.
I am attaching the Vectric program and my Report file.

A couple of things...
Where did you set z zero in Aspire, material or machine, and did you set z zero for the same at the machine?
Do you have "Subtract Height" set to "Yes" (possibly version specific for that option)?
Try setting a -0.626 in the wizard.

I tried the -.626 and even changed all the clearances in Aspire and rerun the program and it did not change the cutting depths at all. I have Aspire set as follows: Material Setup, Gap above material = 0, Gap below material not checked, Rapid Z Gaps above material, Clearence = .20, Plunge = .20, Home Start Position Z above material .21, had Home Start at .80 originally and the lowest it will go is .21. When I changed it from .8 to .21 it did not change the cutting depth in Acorn. I will run one of the Acorn programs and see what it will do. It may be something Aspire.
Thanks for your reply.

Have you tried using the macro and plate to set the Z, and then moving the Z to zero to see where it actually is?

Forget Aspire and any other g code file for now.

Are you using the canned macro in the router version?

Do as Gary suggested and simply touch off on your plate with it sitting on the spoil board or a piece of foam if you have one. After you touch off, move the plate and go into MDI and type Z0. Where does the bit go to?

I did the touch-off plate on the spoil board and then set z0.
It left a .125 (1/8") gap between the spoil board and the bit.

What do you mean "I did the touch-off plate on the spoil board and then set z0"? You set z zero of the macro did?

Do you have the canned "auto z to plate" button on your VCP? The OEM tool touch off macro is by default is mfunc44. You have two version of this macro in your report. One appears to be a back up. Did you edit this macro and why? Try the default, unedited mfunc44 macro and see what happens.

Secondly, mfunc6 is a tool change macro not the "auto Z to plate" macro. Has this macro been edited?
