Gang Lathe Rear Approach Toolpath Problem <resovled>

Post by roundel325 »

I'm having an issue programing a part in Intercon that includes both front and rear approach tooling on a gang lathe. The program starts with facing and turning operations with a front-approach tool. This works as expected. Then the program goes to a parting operation with a rear-approach parting tool. The problem is that the toolpath generated for the parting operating is from the front, not the rear. This shows in the graph as well as the machine motion.

I'm pretty sure I have the tool offsets and nose vectors correctly defined. The parting tool is mounted upside down so it can cut with clockwise spindle rotation.

I have attached screenshots of the tool offsets and program graph, the intercon program and fresh report, and a photo of the tooling setup.

Any insights are appreciated.

Thanks!

Assuming you have set up your X axis so that positive X values are toward the front, then you need to program back-side tools with negative X values.

Your Cutoff cycle should start at a negative diameter.

That worked! I love it when the problem is simple user error. Thanks!
