I ended up replacing it with a Baldor Inverter Drive Motor (IDNM3661T) that is actually rated for 6000 rpm (240Hz). This let me underdrive the system when keeping my 5K max spindle RPM and up my low end torque even more.
Tom, I was trying to figure out how to get a 184TC up there, can you show how you mounted that motor? Do you have a drawing of the adapter plate?
Thanks!

I found this diagram online.

It's for attaching a dc motor but I imagine it could be modified for a 184TC

I'll post a few drawings on Wednesday of my adapters. I took a couple of days off from work and didn't transfer my SolidWorks license to my home computer.
Cheers,

Tom

So, I've had a few questions on my motor adapter to fit a 145TC/184TC frame motor on my Bridgeport clone. These dimensions are for Baldor IDNM 2 and 3Hp vector drive motors. You'll need to check to see if your 145TC or 184TC motor will fit.

First, is a simple flat plate waterjet from A514 HSLA steel. A Baldor IDNM3587T 2Hp 145TC motor fits with no problem. You need to grind/mill the two sides of a Baldor IDNM3661T 3Hp 184TC to provide clearance for the mounting bolt washers, but it will fit.

However, my current garage is a little vertically challenged.

Because of this, I had to step back down to the smaller 2Hp 145TC frame and build a special hat style adapter to bury the motor another 3/4" into the belt housing so I could still swivel the head.

I can provide SolidWorks or STEP files if anyone is interested in either of these adapters.

This is the part I was trying to sort out!
I couldn't figure out how it would fit. Out of the box, it can't.

Thanks Tom!!!

Yup. You'll need to take 3/16 - 1/4" off each side of the IDNM3661T to clear the washer as the motor body is just about tangent with the screw diameter.

Tom, I'd take a copy of the cad file. I'm using and still learning fusion360 so I'm not sure if the solidworks or step files would be easier for me to work with.

Once again thank you for generously sharing your work.

You've been a tremendous help as I am trying to do these upgrades to my machine (spindle encoder and single speed) with access only to the same machine I'm upgrading.

I owe you a couple beers!

The 3HP motor files are the flat plate that fits 145TC/184TC frame Baldor motors. I tossed the 2HP files in here as well if anyone else is unlucky enough to have a midget sized basement. That is the "hat" version that will lower a 145TC motor 3/4" into the belt housing.

Remove the "txt" extension from the files to use them.

Don't know if anyone else will be interested in this, but I covered the interior of the belt housing with "Dynamat"-like material when I had it off. Does seem to make a difference especially at 5K rpm.
