DB25 or Headers? for drive connections...

Which to use for axis motor drive connections.... the DB25 or Headers?

The DB25 drive signal output is designed for axis motor drives that use 5 volt DC logic. Almost all Stepper motor drives should use the DB25 (with a few exceptions). (Note: When connecting up to the DB25 it is preferred to use a DB25 breakout board for easy wire connections. )

The Acorn Drive connection Headers are typically used for drives that use higher DC logic voltages and/or enable signals, drives such as AC brushless drives like Yaskawa, Estun, Delta, Clearpath

Here are ideas for breakout boards. All of these can be had from Amazon (Search DB25 Male)

It is important to screw the breakout board to Acorn. Note the DB25 breakout board without the hood has threaded standoffs. You should find some that have pass through holes so you can screw the breakout board to Acorn. (I have been known to remove the stand offs and carefully drill out the holes for the screws to pass through, but do so if you are comfortable with it)

Does the DB25 breakout box have to be screwed to the acorn board or I can 3ft passthrough cable to connect them? I would like to build two different boxes - one with 24v power supply and all stepper drivers that has the break out box and the second one only with acorn board and its power supply to minimize EMI between low and high voltage boards.

This is not a problem. Just use a good quality DB25 straight through cable.

Thank you, Marty. I connected using passthrough cable and everything is working fine.

On the DB25 do the pins labeled input 1 etc. correlate to the inputs on the headers? I have looked in the manual but found nothing at all about this topic. I would like to run my ZRi wires to the DB25 if so. It would make for a cleaner less congested wiring. I am using 4pair twisted shielded control cable from my drives to the Acorn.

Thank you Tom. Do you mind to tell me where you found that table? I am fighting a bad Corona infection right now so between drugs and the virus I am a little out of it!
