Part 1: Stripping the machine and removing the existing control cabinet
Will NOT be reusing the existing stepper motors OR the MXL pulleys.
Only the spindle motor mount will be kept. All other electronics are removed.

This video shows mostly how to remove the cabinet. There is a bead of silicone that helps adhere the cabinet to the back of the machine.
There are the two obvious screws on each side but there are two sheet metal screws under the operator panel that need to be removed.
Carefully insert a wide blade screw driver in between the cabinet and the machine and gently twist the screw driver. You will hear the silicon let loose...

Looks like a good donor machine!

Why don't you go for the Leadshine "integrated easy servo" drives/motors? They are the same basic parts but they eliminate the need for messy encoder and motor cables. Just provide the DC supply and the step/dir signal direct to the motor. They would also save that valuable cabinet space you mention.

Because the customer has several machines, we opted to be consistent with all and use the same motor drive combination.

Already have the cabinet and those with a cover rather than a door are substantially less expensive. I put a .0625" closed cell foam gasket on the cover flange.

So many people fight trying to reuse existing cabinets, or buy used. Not worth the time and aggravation. Buy the right size that works with room to do what is needed.

Just to be pedantic here (because that's what I do ;-)) it's actually a DE-9 connector.
