most avid machines overall turns ratio is 1.3xxxx yours is 1.01xxxx

with a steps per rev at 5000. are the drives really set to 5000 steps per inch on the drive itself?

Yes they are.
I did the calculations and verified physically on the machine when I first commissioned it. It was bang on.
I haven't had any issues running 5000. The machine actually runs very well and has lots of torque through all speeds.

your overall turns ratio doesn't match the Avids i've worked on so that number you have threw up a red flag for me. is this some old belt drive they made that has a different reduction ratio?
