Linear Scale with Acorn 4-axis

Post by Measurement10 »

Id like to do some ballscrew mapping with my Acorn setup.

I've realized a glass linear scale with best resolution/accuracy is needed. Id like to avoid buying the DRO display. Its a standard Chinese unit from eBay. RS422 output.

Is it possible to hook up the scale to the Acorn encoder input and have it read the position directly?

I've seen posts about this with Acorn-6 however can it be done with the regular 4-axis board?

Yes, it can be done with Acorn. I don't know if it's possible with the Wizard. You may have to edit the parameters directly.
Cheers,

Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

yes, as long as the scale has output that matches standard scale / encoder output defined here.

alternatively
others have just bought a cheap DRO to do the same thing.
