MX4660 Leadshine (answered)

Post by Bob Huntbach »

Hi there I have just ordered an Acorn board and Pro Software and was wondering if there was a wiring diagram for the MX4660 as well as the Gecko 540.
I will be using this for the motor drivers and limit switches and was hoping to add the Vfd control and extra inputs from the Acorn. Also at present the emergency stop is just wired to the MX4660 I take it would have to be wired as the gecko with the present one linked out.
Am I correct in thinking that if I wire the DB25 lead between the present MX4660 and Acorn I will be able to get full control.
Looking forward to get going when it gets over here to the UK.
Regards Bob.

Hello.
Check out the Acorn schematics download link on this page right below the add to cart section.
http://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_diy ... oller.html
There is a nice selection of schematics there I'm sure if your particular Drive isn't specifically listed it would be pretty easy to look at some of the other schematics on there and be able to wire up your drive.

And be sure to check out the Quick Start page. Here. http://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_diy ... guide.html

Thanks for the reply Keith I suppose my main concern is that at the moment I combine the MX4660 with C10 and C6 boards for extra inputs and spindle control hopefully that would continue with the motion control and limits on the MX4660 and probe and toolsetter plus Vfd on The Acorn.
I have two DB25 from the Smooth Stepper.
Regards Bob.

I would plan on wiring at least one limit switch per axis directly to the Acorn board as seen in many of the example hook up schematics if you want to use the automatic homing feature of the CNC 12 software.
If you don't want automatic homing you can hook limits up to a drive and then send a single Drive fault signal back to the Acorn board and then when a limit would be tripped, Acorn would see a drive fault.... that would make the CNC12 software act a little different when switch is tripped but you could do that way if you really needed to conserve inputs. Alternatively another approach to conserve inputs... you could just wire them all up in series along with the physically estop button circuit as seen in the example Acorn schematics as well.

Tell us about the type of machine you're connecting Acorn to and post some photos so we can give you some good advice and follow along with your installation.

Thanks for the reply I think I might try the limit switches on the Acorn as I would use 3 inputs and would want one for a tool length setter if possible and one for a probe but could use the Haimer plus one for a spindle indexer. So 5
I notice that the schematic for the 540 legacy seems to cut me down to 3 inputs as it is wired at the moment but driver only gives me more. I'm a bit unsure of wiring all the limits in series as I have never tried it but it is obviously a good option and will have to try. The E Stop on the MX4660 is slightly different with a + and - so would probably work the same. Plus my limit switches are mechanical so hopefully straightforward to connect to input 1/2/3.
Sorry to have so many questions as I am sure they will mostly sort themselves out when I get to try it out it's just that i am moving from a SS with a second BOB for extra inputs and Spindle control. I would feel better if there was a Leadshine Module form to choose.

Best Regards
Bob.
