Post by jpalmer »

Does anyone know what nema size the baldor cc22529 is? I cant find any info on internet. rough measurements are 5 1/16" wide square mounting flange and hole center 4 1/16"
I want to replace these with clearpath sdsk motors

are you sure on your dimensions?
many old baldor dc servos were NEMA 42 motors

Great info! Thank you.
I was measuring mounting holes wrong and not diagonally center to center but straight across center to center.
Diagonally they are 5.65" doesn't match up with any motors on the lists from centroid. I'm guessing these were proprietary to tree. Fortunately looks fairly easy to make a new motor plate except I need the mill to do it

yeah i would just either modify that existing mount of make an adapter plate, what is the diameter of the existing motor shafts? photos of machine and motor would be a big help, make an online album and post link here.

They are a tapered keyed shaft. I'll have to get new pulleys.

For what it's worth, the original dimensions (ca. 5" square flange, with bolt holes on 4.062" centers along side (ca. 5.74" bolt circle diameter) is consistent with some of the SEM / Servo Dynamics motors that Revolution used in the late 1990's. Those motors, however, had straight shafts.

Ultimately, it will be easier to use whatever motors you can reliably find, and change the mounts and pulleys as needed. From what I have seen, tapered shafts are generally a thing of the past.

Spoke to Aimee at teknic today. She is helping me pick a motor. Specs I gave her
5 turns screw per inch movement x and y
Pulleys
X 26/13
Y 30/15
Existing motors
12a continuous
45a peak
100vdc
3000rpm
500 ozin stall
She needs more information I don't know
Load weight?
Speed requirement?
Acceleration requirement?
Resolution requirement?
Torque requirement?
I dont know what my requirements will be.
I will have to change my drive pulleys so if I need to change size for a specific motor combo to work I'm good with that.
This mill will be hobby use and im not building airplane parts so extreme accuracy isn't needed. Lol although the mill did come from boeing
Thanks

make sure to purchase the 6400 step per rev clearpaths (and not the 800 step per rev units)

Teknic should publish commonly used clearpath motor sizes/type/model to replace common CNC machine tool axis motors instead of starting from ground zero with each customer. love their product but, starting from zero with each customer when the same question has been answered a 1000 times before is kinda silly. anyways its not my company :-) but it sure would be great if they would simply make a chart. and it would sure help their sales! i've had several users tell me they did not buy from them because of this and went with another brand.

typical basic motor specs for a knee mill.

accell for this type of machine .3 to .5 seconds to max rpm

max rpm 2000 to 3000 is typical

torque should be in the 1000-1200 oz-in in range
