Tool offsets Lathe

Post by PhilipTrueman »

I figured out why the "Lathe" Z tool offsets were out by 7.5mm when doing a manual tool offset measurement.
In the probe setup page where you put the measurements of the probe i had the width of the probe stylus set to 7.5mm.
Why this affects a manual tool offset is a problem for Centoid to fix PLEASE can it be fixed in the next software version upgrade.
Also in the tool table It would be nice to have a column for the width of the grooving tool so as when you program a groove in intercom it takes the tool width into consideration when setting the groove width.
Also the tool table needs a diameter column for the drills so that the probe knows the diameter of the drill being probed in the auto probe cycle.

The width of the probe is only for auto measure ZX, so after measuring Z the CNC knows the center of the probes width.

Measuring drills in X with the probe is a "bad habit", because if the drill edge is not exactly set in height you get wrong values, set X0 of the toolholder with a dial indicator and auto measure only Z.

Yes but if there is a figure in the setup page for the width of the stylus.
When i do a manual tool offset in Z it affects the Z offset by -7.5mm

If you have set Z Ref with the probe, manual Z measure at another Z position than that of the probe will not work.

If I have to set Z for a tool and do not want to use the probe while a part ist in the spindle, I make sure the tool is selected and drive it to part Z 0.

Than I correct its Z offset so the DRO shows Z 0 for this tool.
