DIY acorn
I have a 2hp Bridgeport mill with cnc4 on it, I want to install acorn on it using my stepper motors and I my micro 1 drivers, I saw a schematic but not sure how I would hook up to acorn using the wiring strap that’s on cnc4. Let me know any information you would need so I could continue with this project. Thanks

Re: DIY acorn
Start a Google photo album and add dozens of pics of the machine and control box wiring as you can so we can see what you are working with. Also post links to the manuals for any equipment you want to wire up.

Re: DIY acorn
I’ve added photos I can send as many as you need let me know where you need better views, I want to install centroid acorn part number 14455, need to know if that will work and how to hook it up and what other things I would need. What’s in the photos are the machine I will be installing it on and the centroid motion controller, when pushing the X,Y, and Z buttons everything moves as it should so the motion controller itself works, so if we can use what I have integrated with the acorn that would be the goal, please let me know what I would all need to do.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: DIY acorn
Hi I’ve sent 2 messages with photos, I have a project I’m working on and have questions, but I haven’t had a response in over a week just wonder if you are receiving it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: DIY acorn
You probably have not received any replies because very few people are familiar with systems that old.
IMHO, the control is not salvageable. The drives and motors are not worth messing with either. New hybrid servo motors and an Acorn are the cheapest option for a semi-closed loop systems. AC servos, like Delta or Yaskawa, and a Oak controller for a fully closed loop solution.

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Re: DIY acorn
Acorn can run those micro1 drives that are in the box.
schematic is here.
https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 964.r4.pdf
but like Tom said.
it would be much better if you picked up some new axis motors like Clearpath or at least closed loop Leadshine steppers if you are on a budget for this machine the end result would be nice.
this machine is ready to go for cnc since all the mechanicals are there, just need some modern axis motors and an Acorn!

Re: DIY acorn
Ok, thank you for the response I will look into the things you talked about. It came from a school so I don’t think it was used much because the ways are are in perfect shape so I thought it a shame to not try and get this thing going. Thanks again!

Re: DIY acorn
that could be a plan.. get it running as is then update to better motors in the future.Chasehoheneder wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 9:43 pm Ok, thank you for the response I will look into the things you talked about.
