I am using ClearPath SDSK axis motors with Acorn. When I purchased the motors from Teknic I also purchased a Newa 34 power off brake model MPC034-24-003-T for use on the Z axis.

I am using schematic S15072-ACORN_rev4_CLEARPATH_SDSK_SERIES_MOTOR, CNC4PC C86ACCP and have not been able to find a schematic that shows wiring of an axis brake, I would appreciate knowing which diagram to follow.
I would also appreciate an explanation of how the brake will function. I have purchased the brake to stop the head from dropping. I expect that this is only required when the machine tool does not have electrical power as the SDSK motor that I am using is strong enough to hold the head once the machine is powered up.

Re: Z Axis Brake - Wiring Diagram and Mechanical Function
Wire the brake to one of the outputs and use a reverse bias diode to prevent any current from going back to the board. You also have to go into the wizard and setup the output for the axis that you are using the brake on, in your case Axis3BrakeRelease.

Re: Z Axis Brake - Wiring Diagram and Mechanical Function
The diagram for wiring an axis brake to the relay board and your Z axis is S15007 and can be found here:
https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 007.r3.pdf
The brake is active or holding when you remove power from it. When you apply 24 volts to the brake through the Acorn relay board it releases and allows movement. Be sure and setup the Acorn output as your Z axis brake output also. Hope this makes sense.
